Steve’s Thoughts on Flash
Steve Jobs’ reasoning for not allowing Flash on iPhones, iPads, and iPods is completely logical to almost everyone outside of Adobe’s headquarters in San Jose. In his profound, yet tasteful justification for banning Flash, Jobs’ provides prominent reasons for Apple’s betrayal of Adobe Flash, including that Flash is proprietary (Jobs is for proprietary OS, but against proprietary Web standards), it drains battery life, and, of course, reliability, security, and performance. But most importantly, Jobs claims, is that “letting a third party layer of software come between the platform and the developer ultimately results in sub-standard apps and hinders the enhancement and progress of the platform.” And at the end of Mr. Jobs’ 22 paragraph explanation, he let the dogs loose stating, “Perhaps Adobe should focus more on creating great HTML5 tools for the future, and less on criticizing Apple for leaving the past behind.” You tell em’ Steve!
