Dear Congressman
Mr. Mitchell:
It is important that Karl Rove is required to testify on Monday, February 23rd. His claim of executive privilege has no merit. As you are aware, Rove is likely responsible for compromising the security of Valerie Plame, a former CIA agent. After Plame’s husband, Joseph Wilson, wrote a story critical of the Bush Administration in the Washington Post, Robert Novak disclosed that Wilson’s wife was an undercover CIA agent. The disclosure ended Plame’s career. Novak later testified that the information came directly from “senior administrative officials” in the White House.
Rove’s role in the CIA leak scandal should be unveiled. Although he will likely invoke his Fifth Amendment right, he should be forced to at least appear before Congress. It is my understanding that negotiations are currently taking place between Rove and the Judiciary Committee to keep Rove from testifying on Monday. I urge you not to support such efforts and hold Rove accountable for his role in the ousting of Valerie Plame.
Sincerely,
Michael Dugger
